The electrical safety of a commercial or residential building is the first focus of an A-grade qualified electrician who has been called on to fix a problem or quote for a service.

The team at NexGen Tradies are aware of how easy it is to overlook safety factors.

Double adaptors and power boards

Overloading of electrical circuits through excessive use of double adapters, power boards and extension cords is common. If this is happening where you work or live, look at whether you need additional power points.

You may have noticed plugs and power boards getting hot. This is an indication they could catch fire. Dusty power boards are also noted for starting fires, so keep them clean,

Provided your electrical system is able to accommodate some changes, single power points can be changed into doubles, or new additional power points can be installed.

Upgrades for your protection

Employ an A-grade electrician to make these upgrades is essential.

At NexGen Tradies, only A-grade qualified electrical contractors will do your work after a safety assessment. The assessment will uncover any problems. For instance, incorrectly installed down lights can cause fires, or you made need smoke detectors checked and, if necessary, replaced.

The contractor can also look at whether your electrical switchboard needs installation of a Residual Current Device (RCD) and Circuit Breaker combined. This protects appliances and people.

Planning to sell your home? The Real Estate Institute of Western Australia (REIWA) advises that state law requires all residential properties for sale to have at least two RCDs fitted at the meter box (main switchboard) or distribution board by settlement date. This law also applies to rental properties. Properties that do not have at least two RCDs fitted cannot be leased.

Current leaks start fires

Aside from saving people from being electrocuted, the devices can protect against fires starting from minor current leaks from wires with damaged or perished insulation.

State law also requires mains power connected smoke detectors to be in place before a property can be sold or leased.

Licensed and experienced electrician

The licensed electricians at NexGen Tradies can inspect your electrical systems for safety and for the required RCDs, as well as smoke alarms. The state government advises using a licensed and experienced electrician to install your mains powered smoke alarms.

Smoke alarm installation and maintenance are services few people think about, although they are so potentially life-saving.

Smoke detectors in bedrooms

Children whose doors are closed while they are asleep are unlikely to respond to an alarm coming from elsewhere in the home. For that reason smoke detectors should be placed in all bedrooms.
